A Country Autumn

Across earth’s canvas an unseen hand repaints the realm of trees and land

The summer green of emerald hue is now a more eclectic view

Patchworks of scarlet, bronze and gold, the vivid colors now unfold

With autumn’s breath, leaves descend, signaling the summer’s end

Quilting a shawl upon the earth, preparing for spring’s rebirth

A chevron of geese with feral cry, soar southerly across the sky

Squirrels scamper sprightly through the grass gathering their winter cache

Persimmons’ pucker is replaced as frost gives them a sweeter taste

Pumpkins, gourds and bittersweet now decorate our fall retreat

With harvest done at end of day a grateful farmer stops to pray

Autumn comes at God’s behest and we on earth are richly blessed
